Do you have fat fingers? Are they difficult to maneuver around small nail shapes? While we often tend to feel this way… you’re not alone!
I recommend you’d go through the entire post to learn some tips and tricks but I will not force you…
what nail shape is best for fat fingers?
In this blog post, we’ll talk about the best nail shape for fat fingers, as well as some tips and tricks for dealing with this very common issue.
Experimenting is Key!
Which Nail Shapes are BEST for Short/Fat Fingers?
There are a few shapes that can actually flatter your fingers and make them look more slender. These shapes tend to be wider, and at the same time slightly longer (or at least not short) and they help to balance out the width of the finger.
Some of the best nail shapes for fat fingers include:
Oval Nails
Oval nails are a great choice for those with fat fingers because they help to create the illusion of longer, more slender hands. The oval shape also helps to soften any irregularities in the nail, making them look more polished and refined. As mentioned above, there is more than one way to achieve oval-shaped fingernails, so the proper length is something you’ll need to decide by trial and error.
Almond Nails
Almond nails are similar to oval nails in that they help to create the illusion of longer, more slender fingers. However, almond nails are slightly more pointed than oval nails, and they have a more distinct shape. The result is a nail that looks both elegant and stylish.
Almond nails are also relatively easy to achieve, and they can be done at home with the right tools. However, if you’re not confident in your ability to create the perfect almond shape, it’s best to leave it to the professionals at a nail salon near you.
As with oval and in contradiction to the coffin for example – make sure that you don’t make them too pointy and/or narrow – continue the fingers to achieve a harmonic look.
Square Nails
Square nails are an excellent choice for those with fat fingers because they help to make the hands look more proportional. The sharp corners of the nails can also help to make the fingers look more slender. If you have short or wide fingers, square nails are an ideal way to achieve a more flattering look.
We said square and we said oval so this naturally leads us to…
Squoval Nails
Squoval nails are a hybrid of square and oval nails, and they’re an excellent choice for those with fat fingers. The shape helps to make the hands look more proportional and balanced, while the soft edges help to minimize any irregularities in the nail.
If you’re not sure which shape is right for you, squoval nails are always a safe bet. They can be achieved at home with a little bit of practice, or you can always head to your local nail salon and let the professionals take care of it.
Which Nail Shapes are BAD for Chubby Fingers?
There are a few shapes that can actually make your fingers look even bigger or chubbier than they really are. Below, I will elaborate on these (and you may be surprised by numbers 2 & 3), but I would like to state the following beforehand…
Shapes that are often considered wrong for bulky or fat fingers:
Short Nails
If you have fat fingers, you might be tempted to keep your nails short. After all, shorter nails are less likely to get caught on things, and they’re generally easier to maintain.
However, there are a few reasons why you might want to think twice before committing to a short nail regime. For one thing, short nails can actually make your fingers look even fatter. The illusion is created by the contrast between the slenderness of the nail bed and the width of the finger. In addition, short nails tend to emphasize any flaws or irregularities in the nail, which can be especially noticeable on fat fingers. So if you’re looking to achieve the most flattering look for your hands, short nails are not it…
Stiletto Nails
There’s no denying that stiletto nails are sultry and chic. They convey an air of mystery and even sexiness, which is why they’re such a popular choice among celebrities and fashionistas.
However… the super pointy, tapered tip of a stiletto nail emphasizes the width of the finger, making it look even wider. If you’re self-conscious about your hand size, or fingers, opting for a different nail shape is probably a better idea.
Coffin Nails
For the same reason as the stiletto, the Coffin nail shape is bad for fat fingers because it may cause them to appear bulkier. The long, slender shape of the coffin nail accentuates the width of the finger, making it look even larger than it actually is. In addition, the sharp point of the nail can also make fat fingers look even more stubby and misshapen. As a result, coffin nails on fat fingers are best avoided. That is UNLESS you opt for a shorter version of a coffin mani which is essentially a hybrid between square and almond – which as I stated make a great choice.
Why the surprise…?
It makes a lot of sense to opt for longer nail designs to mitigate the chubby fingers. The problem with the stiletto and coffin is the contradiction. They are too narrow compared to the fingers.,
What Is the Best Nail Color for Chubby Fingers?
When it comes to nail colors, there are some that are considered more flattering on “fat” fingers than others. For example, dark shades like navy blue or black can help to make hands look slimmer.
Similarly, glittery and shimmery polishes can also help to create the illusion of thinner fingers. This is compared to matte nail designs that are, to my opinion, not the best choice.
On the other hand, in some contradiction to the above, you may also opt to try nude nail styles, pale or light nail colors like pink, and find that they “merge” with your fingers making them appear longer…
To be honest, I’m not sure if there’s any scientific evidence to support these notions. This is yet again on my personal experience and researching the matter that I found certain colors and designs do seem to make my fingers look a bit slimmer.
BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY – as with all nail designs, trial and error are your best friend! Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what looks best on your nails. So go ahead and experiment with different options and do share with us your findings
