Purple Butterfly Nails

Sweet and cute purple butterfly nails with a small twist

Sometimes, a woman’s gotta do what a woman’s gotta do which is to find a cute nail design that makes her smile whenever she looks at her fingers! And what can I say – purple butterfly nails hit the spot right on.

If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for trends and ideas for a fresh look. So when I spotted a woman with the most beautiful purple butterfly nails, and then another, and another, I just had to find out more.

Turns out, the butterfly nail art trend is not only gorgeous, but it’s also quite easy to achieve at home (not to mention the nail salon next door…). Here’s everything you need to know about purple butterfly nails.

Purple Butterfly Nail Ideas

Before I dive deep into the how what and where of these cute nail designs, I’d like to take you flying high with me into the endless possibilities of butterfly nails (sorry – couldn’t resist wording…)

On a serious note, in this case, one of the reasons it is more important for me to show off some of the coolest ideas out there is because you can take the purple butterfly nail design in different directions. It is very easy to take it into a playful and cute nail design yet on the other hand, even though these are butterflies and the dominant color that is used is purple, you can make an elegant and sophisticated design that would be suitable for a work occasion. The sky is the limit and the nails are your canvas to show off your personality.

Purple Nails with Butterflies –

Yes, you can have purple butterflies but you can also do the opposite by having purple nails and adding to them any other color of butterflies. This can be a way of adding a touch of playfulness or royalty to your nails. The key here is in the number of butterflies you add to your nails and also how big or small they are going to be.

Small tip… if you want to keep it more on the elegant side of things, you can add your butterflies (or butterfly) to only one finger, or alternatively, choose a butterfly color that compliments the purple nail colors. A great example of such a color combination you can see in our pink and purple nail designs.

More is less or less is more? What type of lady are you? If you like this idea, of having the nails in purple and the butterflies in different colors, you can play with it further by changing the tones of purple, and there are so many… Just look at these examples:

Dark Purple Nails with Butterflies

You can play with it in two ways.

A dark purple nail polish supplemented by light-colored butterflies or vice versa, light-colored nail polish, and complement it with a bold and dark purple butterfly. Either way, it would look great.

Light Purple Nails with Butterflies

While I don’t want to lead you into dark or light, it seems that light purple butterfly nails are more popular than darker ones. But trends tend to change…

Purple Ombre Nails with Butterflies –

This is one of my personal favorites. It looks like the perfect nail design for spring and summer when you want something fresh yet sophisticated on your nails. You can do this by having a light purple ombre at the bottom gradually transitioning into a darker shade as you go up. Add some glitter if you want and top it off with one or two small butterflies for that final touch.

White Nails with Purple Butterflies –

This is a design that can go both ways – playful or elegant. It all depends on how you want to rock it. You can have a few small butterflies randomly placed on your nails for more fun and carefree vibe or alternatively, go for one larger butterfly per nail in different shades of purple for a more dramatic look when set on the white base coat.

And if you like the look but want to take the dramatic effect down a notch, you can change the bright white with soft white and you won’t believe how much of a difference it would make…

Clear Nails with Purple Butterflies

A small twist to the above white nail design, by using clear nail polish or nude nail colors, the nails would get more subtle options for purple nail designs with butterflies.

Short Purple Butterfly Nails –

A lot of nail art naturally comes with longer nails. The reason behind it is simply because long nails provide the nail artist with lots of canvas to work with. HOWEVER, and this is where the interesting part comes in when it comes to purple butterfly nails, short nails are the most common ones, or at least the most sought after. And the reason behind that is because of the way butterfly nail art is done (at least in my opinion), which does not really require long nails that are at the end of the day, less practical.

How to do Butterfly Nails?

Well, you can go to your nearest nail salon and have them professionally done, or alternatively, you can try and do it yourself at home. If you are going for the latter, here are some step-by-step instructions:

Step One: The Base Coat

Before you start painting your nails, it’s important to apply a base coat. This will help the polish adhere to your nails and prevent chips. Once your base coat is dry, it’s time to move on to step two.

Step Two: The Polish

Now, it’s time for the fun part! Choose a purple polish that speaks to you and start painting your nails. We recommend using thin coats so that the polish doesn’t pool in the corners of your nails. Once you’re satisfied with the coverage, it’s time to move on to step three.

Step Three: The Topper (optional)

This step is optional, but we think it really makes the purple butterfly nails pop. Apply a clear topcoat with glitter or sequins mixed in. We love this step because it adds just a touch of glamour to an already fun look.

Step Four: The Butterflies

Once the nails are dry, it is time to start working on the butterfly design. Take a white nail polish and using a small brush, start painting the outline of a butterfly on each nail. You can make the butterflies as big or small as you want. Now, fill in the rest of the butterfly with different colors. You can use any colors you want but remember to stay within the same color family so that the design does.

Alternatively, you can also buy butterfly nail stickers or decals from your local beauty store. These are usually very easy to apply and can give you a professional-looking finish.

Here are a few sample kits, from acrylic to stickers:

Step Five: The Pictures

And that’s it! You now have the most beautiful purple butterfly nails. Now take some pictures of your creation and share them with the world 🙂

Conclusion

And there you have it – everything you need to know about purple butterfly nails! I hope this has inspired you to try out this trend for yourself. If you do, make sure to tag us in your photos on Instagram so we can see your beautiful nails!
